TOKYO (AFP) – Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) said weekday it had oversubscribed more than three meg organism vehicles, a key champion of its earnings, thanks to the orbicular popularity of the Prius model.

Since the Coaster Hybrid EV and the example Prius hit the mart in 1997, Toyota had oversubscribed 3.03 meg organism vehicles worldwide by the modify of February, the consort said in a statement.

"With orbicular cumulative income of its organism vehicles passing the three-million mark, TMC believes that much vehicles are play to start the mainstream," it said.

Toyota currently sells 16 organism models in most 80 countries and regions around the world. The portion has become the main utility of the company's sales, with the Prius becoming Japan's most favourite vehicle in past years.

The world's large maker brought the electric-petrol Prius to North America, Europe and another major markets in 2000 and it has effectively submissive the category of environmentally friendly vehicles ever since.

However, analysts expect it to grappling stiffer competition from rivals much as Nissan and Mitsubishi that have convergent on all-electric vehicles.

Toyota's account of organism vehicles reached two meg in August 2009, soon after it free the ordinal edition of the Prius in May 2009.

The consort estimated that its organism vehicles have led to some 18 meg less tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

Toyota's estimation has been tarnished by millions of recalls including its Prius worldwide for different defects, some of which were linked with fatal accidents in the United States.

It said it planned to introduce 10 new organism models by the modify of 2012.
